Antler Hiking Stick

About Our Sticks

about

Traditionally made walking sticks and crooks

Each stick is chosen for the correct length and taper then left to season for up to two years before walking on them.

The stick is then straightened taking up to 20 individual bends out by gently heating the bend and applying pressure to reverse the bend.

Small knots, thorns and dead bark are removed.

A traditional peg joint is then made at the top of the shaft to securely join the handle to the shaft.

The handle is then made out of hardwood or horn and drilled to fix to the top of the shaft.

Bone, hone or metal spacers are shaped to fix between the handle and the shaft if required/requested.

A great deal of shaping, filing and sanding is then needed to get the required shape and finish to the handle and get a smooth joint between shaft and handle.
