A traditional shepherd's crook for catching sheep by the neck (please ask for a working stick if it is to be used for this purpose and I will make additional strength improvements to the handle).
The hook on the end of the handle is designed to hang a lantern on when tending to sheep.

Ash Handled Knob Stick
SS-501
Mounted on a heavyweight "Twisty" Hazel shank.
Twisties are very sought after with their unusual cork screw affect.
The handle has been left plain to good affect, but would also look good with a hole drilled to accept a fishing fly for example and filled with clear paperweight resin (subject to extra cost).
£44.00
Bone and Cow Horn Knob Stick
SS-502
A tall slender Chestnut Shank topped with Cow horn and a bone capping and spacer.
The Chestnut shank on this stick is striking with a purple tinge to it. The top is sloped slightly so as to give a comfortable thumb hold if needed.
£48.00
Elm Burr Market Stick
SS-101
This is a direct decendant of the Shepherds Crook.
It was originally used as a bit of a "show off" stick to be taken to the cattle market when buying/selling livestock. It has a handle at a height comfortable to lean on as you watch the livestock go by or do discuss the prices at the pub. It also has a handle suitable to hang over the forearm to get your money out.
It can be just like the crook used as a tall hiking stick or short as a walking stick.
£63.00
Cherry Thumb Stick
SS-201
This stick is a big favorite with walkers.
The handle has a U-shaped groove at a height comfortable to grip with your thumb through to give a strong grip that won't slip down the shaft to help you climb the hills.
£36.00
Buffalo Horn Lyre Thumb Stick
SS-202
This handle is made from Buffalo horn and is shaped and then polished to a mirror shine.
Buffalo horn is very strong and smooth and slips through the hand like silk.
This stick has the handle mounted on a very atractive Cherry shank that has had the top layer of bark removed to show a stiking orange colour. The knots and scaring lower down the shank show the light colour of the wood under the bark.
Four coats of oil have been applied and then two coats of Wax to bring out the wood.
£48.00
Red Deer Antler Thumb Stick
SS-203
A Red Deer V thumbstick capped with Buffalo horn and with a spacer of Rams horn sandwiched between two pieces of Buffalo horn.
Mounted on a Hazel shank.
£40.00
Walker
SS-601
A great stick for those who want a traditional size walking stick to aid stability.
A T shaped handle that puts the stresses straight down the shank so you get no flex from the stick when you apply weight to it. The curve of the handle still allows it to slide through the hand with your ryhem of your stride.
This particular stick has a Cherry handle and is mounted with the usual peg joint to a Ash shank with its bark partially stripped off. The shank has then been stained Ebony and then has four coats of oil to protect it.
